Free Discovery (Hogeschool Leiden) and Living Lab
Leiden are very pleased to invite you to the First Annual Leiden Workshop on
Open Innovation, which will take place November 29th, 2007 (from 10.00H to
17.00H).
This event, which will be held at Hogeschool
Leiden, will convene many interesting people, such as local and regional SMEs,
other companies, participants from the Free Discovery projects and the Living
Lab IPC project, local and regional policy makers, academics, the European
Network of Living Labs and many others.
The Workshop on Open Innovation will be a very
interesting chance to meet all these people working on the same topics. And
together share, discuss and work on concrete projects that happen in the Leiden region and on
capabilities for open innovation. Many interesting speakers are invited as
well. This event will provide you an exceptional opportunity to learn more
about and take part in innovative activities taking place in The Netherlands
and particularly in the region of Leiden.

Agro Living Lab focuses on usability and user-centred design in mechanical engineering for agro technology, forestry and cattle husbandry. Agro Living Lab locates in Finland, in the region of Seinäjoki which has a strong competence in the sectors the living lab is focusing on.
The objective of the living lab is to boost the whole production chain from a field to a consumer’s table. The focus is strongly on machine design and man-machine interfaces. The living lab is an R&D tool especially for the companies but also for universities.Agro Living Lab is a co-operation concept of Seinäjoki Technology Centre Ltd. and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. Other stakeholders are the city of Seinäjoki, different Finnish funding organisations, the companies making business in agriculture and forestry and end-users.

Our mission is to offer a new, integrated, user-centred approach to innovative economic and social development, in order to efficiently tackle the central challenges to the vitality of the rural areas of the North of Finland, northern Scandinavia, and eventually the circumpolar regions. This is to be achieved by combining cross-disc iplinarity with the extant know-how and experience into a holistic approach to the implementation of the Lisbon strategy. NorthRULL will proceed in two main areas of activity, (1) health-related e-services and (2) international tourism industry. In both of them, we will explore the possibilities to set up open innovation systems and improve the management of innovation networks in the North, and create thematic partnerships with other members of ENoLL. Laurea (www.laurea.fi) is a R&D -oriented university of applied sciences. Laurea operates in the Helsinki metropolitan area and is focused on service innovations. Laurea’s strategic choice is to integrate its three main tasks – education, research and development, and regional development.
It has created the Learning by Developing (LbD) model as a tool for reaching its strategic goals and implementing its strategies in practice. The focus of R&D is welfare, knowledge intensive business services and social responsibility. The volume of Laurea’s whole R&D was in 2006 about 7,3 meur. The LbD –model with Laurea’s 8000 students is an essential R&D resource which enables rich interaction with end users.
